October 4, 2025 — The "LightFlow·流光" Art Festival is set to launch at the UrCove by Hyatt Shanghai West Bund. Centered around the theme of "light" as its narrative thread, this year’s festival transcends traditional exhibition forms, aiming to create an urban light source platform that gathers goodwill and futuristic vision. More than just displaying art, the event seeks to explore how technology can enrich human warmth, how art can rebuild social connections, and how individuals can actively participate in shaping a sustainable future. These are agendas that deeply resonate with the West Bund’s artistic identity and Shanghai’s ethos of urban humanity.
Structured around three core sections — “Beam of Presence,” “Beam of Rebirth,” and “Beam of Symbiosis”, the festival guide visitors through a multidimensional journey of experience.
Beam of Presence: The Gravitational Field of Art and Human Connection
Art is a fundamental force that carries emotion. It resembles water seeking its riverbed that shares instinct within humanity. Artists participating in the festival transform hotel rooms into gravitational spaces fulfilled by emotions, activating profound resonance between the viewer and themselves, and between one another. The works are no longer meant merely to be viewed, they become proactive media that initiate intellectual reflection and perceptual connection.
Breaking through the boundaries of traditions, this year’s "LightFlow·流光" Art Festival transforms 48 guest rooms at the UrCove by Hyatt Shanghai West Bund into 48 independent while interconnected universes. Here, art is no longer plain exhibits—it bridges the souls of artists and audiences. Each room is an intimate sensual world crafted by artists. Rather than passive observers, visitors become active participants in the process of art co-creation.
You may encounter an artist at work through the door, pick a random chance to listen to their stories behind the scenes, or even be invited to join in spontaneous creation. Through reciprocal interaction, you can touch the warmth of art and the power of co-creation.
These 48 rooms are not only galleries, they are living spaces where emotion flows. Here, every work awaits a kindred spirit where every artist hopes to spark a conversation with their audience.
All of this awaits your personal experience, come not only to see art, but to become part of it.
Beam of Rebirth: The Cycle of Matter and Life
This segment touches on issues of sustainability with a creative proposition: There is no waste, only misdirected energy carriers. Using materials such as everyday discarded objects, electronic components, and regenerated fibers, artists transform what is generally considered obsolete into works of art, thereby freeing these materials from the linear chain of consumption and granting them a “second breath of light.”
More than a rebirth of matter, this section aims to rethink public consumption habits and their relationship with the environment.
Beam of Symbiosis: Weaving a Network of Connection
The most experimental segment of the festival explores the concept of *symbiosis*. True sustainability does not arise from uniformity, but from creative coexistence among different individuals, species, and ideas. Through interdisciplinary collaborations, co-creation workshops, and forums, artists, scientists, designers, and visitors come together to break down cognitive barriers and explore possibilities for symbiosis between art, nature, and technology through weaving a web of connection rooted in goodwill and innovation.
Let the Light Flow: Your Participation Warms the Cosmos Through Art
At the Festival, art is not only a visual feast, but also the energy that warms the world. Every encounter you have with art here becomes a beam of light that illuminates others.
This year’s festival specially launches the "LightFlow Initiative": 10% of artwork sales will be donated to a public welfare foundation dedicated to art education and environmental innovation. This means that you are assigning value to artworks while delivering kindness to those in need upon purchase.
Furthermore, at the Charity Auction Night, a number of acclaimed artists ae going to donate thoughtfully created works to the "Glimmers of Hope" event. All funds raised will be directed in full to trusted public welfare foundations. Every gavel falling will mark a moment of love fulfilled—a surge of light flowing onward.
A series of art workshops and thematic talks will also take place during the festival. The organizers shared:
“We hope that ‘light’ becomes a language accessible to all. It is both a question and an answer – an invitation for everyone to reflect on how we can live better in this city, and on the planet.”
This autumn, be prepared to immerse yourself in the warm ocean of light, discover how art illuminates life, how technology conveys warmth, and how people connect through artistic expression. We believe that you will carry a beam of light home – the one that continues to brighten your path ahead.
Being ignited by the West Bund, let the light flow and reaching even further shores.
