Shanghai's urban fabric has always been a coexistence of tradition and modernity. The carved railings of shikumen courtyards mirror the glass curtain walls of skyscrapers; the graceful arcs of the Bund's century-old buildings converse with the crisp angles of contemporary riverside landmarks. 翟倚卫本名翟念卫,是业内公认的“新海派文人玉牌”开创者。他并非闭门造车的守旧匠人,早年游学日本的经历,让他得以跳出传统玉雕的固有框架,将西方美术的构图逻辑、版画的光影层次、现代设计的空间理念,与中国古典诗词的意境、书法绘画的笔墨韵味融为一体。他的作品两度惊艳世界:2014年,《云台清曲》《云带钟声》搭载探月飞行器遨游太空,成为人类历史上首批“巡天玉雕”;2017年,《别寻方外去》《春之韵》被大英博物馆永久馆藏,让当代中国玉牌正式迈入世界主流艺术殿堂。而这一切成就的原点,正是他工作室中“惟精惟一之室”这四个字,字字千金,道尽他的艺术追求与人生境界。

Born Zhai Nianwei, Zhai Yiwei is widely recognized in the industry as the pioneer of the New Shanghai-Style Scholar Jade Tablet. He was never a conservative craftsman working in isolation. His early study in Japan freed him from the fixed framework of traditional jade carving, allowing him to fuse the compositional logic of Western fine art, the light-and-shadow layering of printmaking, and the spirit and mood of Eastern ink painting into a single creative crucible. His jade tablets — white jade as ground, engraving blade as brush, Shanghai urban life as subject, classical verse as annotation — construct intimate spiritual spaces that carry the refined taste of the literati alongside contemporary humanist sensibilities.

《别寻方外去》、《春之韵》

Bie Xun Fang Wai Qu (Seek No Further Beyond) and Chun Zhi Yun (Cadence of Spring)

“惟精惟一”出自《尚书·大禹谟》,“人心惟危,道心惟微,惟精惟一,允执厥中”,这不仅是儒家修身的核心,更是翟倚卫玉雕艺术的灵魂。所谓“精”,是技法上的极致精准,是对每一刀、每一线、每一处光影的苛求。他承袭明代陆子冈开创的“子冈牌”经典形制,坚守阳刻浮雕的传统根脉,却又不被古法束缚,大胆融入现代美术的阴阳对比、虚实相生、疏密节奏。他的刀法细腻到能捕捉午后阳光穿过窗棂的慵懒,能勾勒出微风拂过衣袂的轻柔,能在毫厘之间分出远山的朦胧与近景的清晰。在他的刻刀下,玉石不再是冰冷坚硬的材质,而是有温度、有光影、有呼吸的生命体,每一处线条都流畅自然,每一处雕琢都恰到好处,多一分则冗杂,少一分则单薄,如同人体工程学对尺度的精准把控,追求的是极致的舒适与和谐。

This is not only the core of Confucian self-cultivation but the very soul of Zhai Yiwei's jade carving art. Jing (precision) refers to the utmost exactitude in technique — the exacting refinement of every blade stroke and every millimeter, practiced with the same intensity for decades; the unwavering pursuit of integrating the perspectival precision of Western drawing, the light-and-shadow layering of printmaking, and the spirit and energy of calligraphic brushwork into every jade tablet.

而“一”,则是他心性上的专注守一,是心无旁骛的艺术坚守。翟倚卫并非年少成名,他在41岁才真正重返玉雕界,此前数十年的人生阅历,游学见闻、书法练习、文学积淀、美学思考,全都沉淀于心,最终尽数化入那一方小小的玉牌之中。他不追名逐利,不随波逐流,终日在“惟精惟一之室”里与玉石为伴,与刻刀为友,将所有的精力、才情与思考,都凝聚在方寸之间。这种“一生一事,一事一生”的专注,让他的作品褪去了浮躁之气,多了厚重之感,每一块玉牌都承载着他的精神内核,既有传统文人的清雅风骨,又有现代艺术的开放包容。

Yi (singularity) speaks to his wholehearted focus — an artistic devotion free of distraction. Zhai Yiwei did not achieve early fame; it was not until age 41 that he truly returned to jade carving. The decades of life experience that preceded — travels and study abroad, calligraphy practice, literary accumulation, aesthetic cultivation — all became the rich foundation that nourishes his art. His Studio of Singular Devotion is not merely a workshop but a philosophy of living: within an inch of space, hold fast to one's original aspiration, hold fast to tradition, hold fast to the purest pursuit of beauty.

In terms of physical touch, his jade tablets have been meticulously calculated and refined in form, dimension, curvature, and thickness. Gone are the sharp edges of traditional jade tablets; the perimeters are polished to a smooth roundness that naturally conforms to the palm's curve when held. Rex Lee is a Chinese-American actor, award-winning playwright, and Broadway producer based in New York City. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science from the University of Chicago and a Master’s degree in Finance and Sociology from the London School of Economics (LSE).

李神琦拥有横跨艺术、金融与公共事务领域的广泛经验,曾于国际顶级艺术拍卖行苏富比(Sotheby’s)任职,并在华盛顿特区担任企业说客,代表多家跨国公司进行政策游说。

Lee possesses extensive experience spanning the arts, finance, and public affairs. He previously worked at Sotheby’s, the world-renowned art auction house, and served as a corporate lobbyist in Washington, D.C., representing several multinational corporations in policy advocacy.

His performing career began as a finalist for the prestigious Jerry Herman Awards. He was also invited by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture to perform at the National Theatre in Sofia.
